The most important reason people chose rsync is: Only the changed parts of files are synced. In the question What are the best personal file-syncing solutions rsync is ranked 3rd while FreeFileSync is ranked 9th. Now just having a NAS to use as target for my FreeFileSync would be fine, but I want realtime sync for my documents, preferrably also from outside my network (so if I work on thinks on my Laptop away from home, turn it off and turn on my PC, I want the changes to be there). When comparing rsync vs FreeFileSync, the Slant community recommends rsync for most people. My reasons to switch away from this setup are: - I would like to get my files off of OneDrive (ownCloud is currently fine for me because it is hosted at my University which I trust, but not depending on it would still be nice) - I now have other people living in my household who would benefit from a NAS as Backup storage for TimeMachine In addition, I also use OneDrive to get my Photos and other larger files available from everywhere. Then I regularly plug in my PC to a external HDD and use FreeFileSync to backup all files on the PC (including the synced files from ownCloud). I am thinking of replacing my backup & filesync setup.Ĭurrently I have a Laptop and a PC (both Windows/Linux), between which I sync my documents using ownCloud.
